The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is an organization under the Ministry of Defence that recruits cadets from schools and colleges. The N.C.C. develops a pool of disciplined and trained human resources that can serve the nation in times of need, such as war or natural disasters. The motto of N.C.C. is “UNITY & DISCIPLINE”.

Aims

  • To develop qualities of character, courage, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, and selfless service among the youth.
  • To create trained, motivated youth who can take leadership roles in all walks of life including the armed forces and public service.

Activities

The N.C.C. is open to all regular students on a voluntary basis. It is organized into three wings – Army, Navy & Air Force. Its training activities include:

  • Basic military training in small arms, parades, civil defence, self-defence, and social work.
  • Training in physical fitness, weapon handling, firing, signalling, first-aid, and cultural activities.
  • Practical and theoretical camps organized for 10–12 days by army staff, compulsory for all cadets.
  • Examinations conducted by NCC Directorate for ‘B’ & ‘C’ Certificates, issued by the Ministry of Defence.

Benefits

Cadets who successfully complete the ‘C’ Certificate exam receive several benefits:

  • Additional weightage marks added to university examinations.
  • Reservation benefits in State & Central Police and Para Military Forces.
  • Direct eligibility for SSB interviews with ‘C’ Certificate and 50% marks.
